This Emergency Warning is being issued for Bendigo, California Gully, Eaglehawk, Eaglehawk North, Golden Square, Ironbark, Jackass Flat, Long Gully, Maiden Gully, Myers Flat, North Bendigo, Sailors Gully, Specimen Hill, West Bendigo, Spring Gully, Gum Tree Flat.

This is an updated Advice warning that replaces the warning issued at 3.40 pm.

  • There is a grassfire at Taylor St, California Gully that is not yet under control.
  • The grassfire is travelling in a south-easterly direction towards Smith St & George St. 
  • Weather conditions have changed and the fire has now crossed Smith St & George Rd] and is moving towards Golden Square.
Smith st & George St could be impacted anytime within the next 30 minutes. Leaving now is the safest option, before conditions become too dangerous. Emergency Services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay. 

What you should do 


Travel to:
  • The home of family or friends that is away from the warning area.
  • Be aware of any road closures when you leave.
In the car:
  • If you are travelling, do not enter the area, U-turn to safety.
  • Slow down and turn on your headlights; smoke will make it difficult to see.
  • When you leave remember to take your pets, mobile phone and medications.

If you stay seek shelter indoors: 
  • Close all exterior doors, windows and vents and turn off cooling systems.
  • Shelter in a room that has a door and or a window to the outside - It is critical to keep an eye on what is happening with the fire.

  • The following roads are closedSmith & George Sts
  • Residents in march Estate should leave via Pink St  and head towards Bendigo.
  • Grassfires can generate enormous amounts of radiant heat.
