  • There is a bushfire at Grampians National Park and surrounding area that is not yet under control.
  • The bushfire is travelling in a south-easterly direction towards Mafeking.
  • People living in and around Mafeking are advised to LEAVE NOW if it is safe to do so.
  • Fire crews are on scene and working to control the fire.
  • Grampians National Park is closed.
  • Grampians Road between Halls gap and Dunkell Road is closed.
  • If you are not prepared, you should leave now.
  • Don't wait, leaving now is the safest option - conditions may change and get worse very quickly. Emergency Services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.
  • By choosing to stay, you and your family may be at risk of serious injury or death.
What you should do:

  • Monitor changes to the situation. Increased wind speed, change in wind direction, smoke or poor visibility can indicate the situation is changing.
  • Protect yourself and your family.
  • If you are away from home, do not return.

You should leave:
  • Take your pets, medications, mobile phone and charger.
  • Many people have died trying to leave at the last minute during fires.
  • Travel to the home of family or friends that are away from the warning area or Grampians.
  • If you are currently driving, slow down and turn on your headlights. Smoke will make it difficult to see.
Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.
Impacts in your area:
  • The following roads are closed: Grampians Road between Halls Gap and Dunkell Rd.
  • Bushfires can start spot fires and embers large distances ahead of the main fire.
  • Trees can be extremely hazardous during a bushfire or high winds. Avoid standing, parking or travelling in areas of fire affected trees.
  • Check the VicTraffic website (traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au/) or call 13 11 70 for road closures.
