Emergency Warning - Geo - Avoid the Area Extreme Mount Dandenong Tourist Road and Inverness Road 04/05/2026
This Emergency Warning is for communities in the vicinity of Mount Dandenong Tourist Road and Inverness Road in Mount Dandenong. 

A large landslide occurred at approximately 1:50pm this afternoon along the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road near the intersection with Inverness Road. 
If you are in the vicinity of the landslide, you are in danger. Avoid the area and stay away from the landslide.
What you should do: 
  • Act quickly to stay safe, especially if another landslide might happen. 
  • If you are away from home, stay away. Stay away from the landslide - the slope may continue to move for hours or days afterwards. 
  • You can go to family or friends homes away from the landslide in Mount Kalorama and Olinda.
  • Take your pets, medications, identification, mobile phone and charger with you Stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings. 
If more landslides happen, stay safe by taking the following actions. 

If you become trapped under debris: 
  • Do not light a match.
  • Stay as still as possible and cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.
  • Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can find you. Shout only as a last resort.
Inside:
  • Move to the part of building that is as far as possible from the approaching landslide and take shelter under a table or bench.
Driving:
  • Travel using recommended routes.
  • Know your travel routes as travel may take longer due to closed roads and poor driving conditions.
Outdoors:
  • Move away quickly and keep clear of steep slopes, trees, powerlines and poles.
Impacts in your area: 

The landslide has resulted in dangerous road conditions - as a result, the following roads are closed:
  • Mount Dandenong Tourist Road between Browns Road and Inverness Road.
  • Inverness Road north of Mount Dandenong Tourist Road
  • Lookout Road
  • Blackiston Track
  • Scenic Crescent
